Guiding Light heading to DVD
Former CBS soap opera Guiding Light is set to be released on DVD with a box-set of 20 episodes available from January.
The American soap was the longest running in the world when it came to an end in 2009; it was a staggering 72 years old! Originally launched as The Guiding Light on NBC Radio in 1937 it moved to CBS Radio in 1947 and in 1952 became a television soap though continued to air on radio as well until 1956. In 2009 it was cancelled by CBS because of its low ratings.
However, fans of Guiding Light will doubtless be happy to read that the former series is heading to DVD with a box-set containing 20 episodes to be released in early January. The ‘Classics’ box-set will feature a number of fan favourite episodes from across a 30 year period.
The box-set follows the release of fellow CBS series’ As The World Turns on DVD earlier this year. Released by Soap Classics the company aims to release other Proctor and Gamble produced serials such as Another World and The Edge of Night on DVD as well.
