Rick Santorum would support move to invalidate gay marriages

AmericaRick Santorum, one of the Republican parties presidential hopefuls, has said he supports changes to the law which would invalidate existing gay marriages.

There’s little support for gay marriage amongst the hopefuls hoping to be selected by the Republican party to stand against President Obama in this year’s elections. Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann have already stated their opposition to gay marriages as have several other candidates. Rick Santorum, in a new interview with NBC, has spoken about his views on gay marriage and what he would do about same-sex marriages if elected.

Santorum stated that if he were elected as president he would support a constitutional amendment which would invalidate existing gay marriages in America. Several states, such as New York, have legalised gay marriages in recent years though such moves have met with oppositions and calls for the Federal government to make amendments to the constitution to ban outright gay marriages. Asked about the growing support for gay marriage in opinion polls the hopeful replied saying some people thought ‘blacks were less than human….Well, just because public opinion says something, doesn’t mean something is right if it is not right”.

Santorum explained that he based his decisions on his faith and reasoning telling NBC ‘If your reason is right and your faith is true, you are going to end up in the same place’. Of course some people will question whether his reason and faith are indeed right but that’s another debate entirely. The topic of gay marriage continues to be raised especially with the republican hopeful’s as their stance on the issue attracts more and more coverage and headlines.
