Steady return for The Vampire Diaries

Nina DobrevEarly overnight ratings figures reveal The Vampire Diaries made a steady return to The CW last night in an evening laden with repeats.

At 8pm The Vampire Diaries returned to The CW from the mid-season break with The New Deal as Mystic Falls dealt with the consequences of Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) quest for revenge against Klaus (Joseph Morgan). The episode pulled in 3.1 million viewers with a 1.4 18-49 rating – holding steady on its mid-season finale Homecoming. Elsewhere at 8pm it was mostly repeats with CBSThe Big Bang Theory pulling in 11.6 million viewers with a 3.5 rating and at 8.30 Rules of Engagement pulling in 8.6 million and a 2.6 rating. Bones on Fox had 4.8 million viewers with a 1.2 rating while Community on NBC had 2.6 million viewers with a 0.8 rating followed by Parks & Recreation with 2.3 million viewers and a 0.9 rating. Wipeout on ABC meanwhile had 8.5 million viewers and had a 2.8 18-49 rating.

At 9pm the return of Grey’s Anatomy to ABC saw its figures rise slightly with 12 million viewers and a 4.5 18-49 rating. The return of witchy drama The Secret Circle to The CW was seen by 2 million viewers with a 0.8 rating. Elsewhere at 9pm it was more repeats with Person of Interest on CBS attracting 8.7 million viewers with a 1.9 rating, The Office on NBC pulling in 2.6 million with a 1.1 rating which was followed by Whitney with 2.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating. Bones on Fox had 4.2 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.

Private Practice at 10pm on ABC had 7.8 million viewers and a 2.8 rating while a repeat of The Mentalist on CBS had 9.1 million viewers with a 1.9 rating.
