Fringe's season finale can work as series finale

Joshua Jackson and Anna TorvThe producers of Fringe have said the season four finale can also work as a series finale should the quirky drama, starring Anna Torv, be cancelled.

The future of Fringe is still very much in doubt with its low ratings and admission by Fox that, at the moment, the series loses them money the future of the drama seems bleak. However, Fox surprisingly renewed Fringe for a fourth season despite low ratings so fans are hopeful the drama could pull of another miracle renewal. Producers Jeff Pinker and J.H Wyman have spoken to TVLine and told the entertainment news website that the fourth season finale could also work as a big series finale should the axe finally fall.

“Worst case scenario, if this were the last aired season of Fringe — and as we’ve said before, there are other outlets where we could continue our stories, be they graphic novels or webisodes — we know what the end of this season is going to be, and it can function as a series finale.” – Jeff Pinker speaking to TVLine

Fringe’s co-creator J.J Abrams told TVLine he was hopeful of the show’s continuation saying he was ‘crossing his fingers” that Fringe ‘gets to continue — and if not on Fox, maybe somewhere else‘. So even if Fox do cancel the series it seems that the producers are keen to continue the saga in another form though they could try first taking it to another broadcaster. However, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly has stated that, as yet, no decision or discussions had taken place over the future of the series and said fans shouldn’t start campaigning for its survival yet.
