Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson has said that he hopes Katherine Kelly (pictured), who plays Becky McDonald, will return to the street. Becky departs Corrie on Monday after being vindicated following allegations that she caused her rival Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) to miscarry after falling down the stairs in December..

Collinson was asked during a newspaper interview if he had ruled out the return of Becky to which he said: “No. I’d love that. I remember being a viewer when Sarah Lancashire as Raquel came back. Speaking of her final scenes on the cobbles, he added: “They were genuine tears for all of us. It’s a close team. You have to be when you’re making that much television.”

Viewers this week seen Becky get the information she needed to prove that she never caused Tracy to miscarry. The drama begins in the first episode on Monday with the wedding of her former husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to Tracy. In traditional soap style, Becky waits for the perfect moment to reveal all.

Coronation Street airs Monday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV 1 / STV / UTV
