BBC Radio 1 to screen UK music chart online

BBC Radio 1

Top Of The Pops in all but name, the BBC has announced that the Official Chart Show will be screened online. The BBC announced at the weekend that the final hour (6pm – 7pm) of the three hour chart show will be visualised for the first time, with viewers being able to see music videos, recorded performances and the announcement of who has made it to Number 1 live.

“This is the Chart Show for the 21st century. I’m very excited about this innovation. Young people will be logging on to listen, watch and take part in the show. I hope that this will be to our young listeners what listening to the chart and waiting to record your favourite pop songs was for another generation.” – Ben Cooper, Controller of BBC Radio 1
This is the first time the Top 10 has been visualised weekly at the BBC since 2006, when long running weekly music chart show Top of the Pops ceased, having entertained audiences since 1964. Top Of The Pops does however air once a year on Christmas Day, with a selection of performances from the past year and includes who has made it to Christmas Number 1.
The first visualised chart will begin on Sunday 26th February on the BBC Radio 1 website.
