Above Suspicion ends with nearly 6 million viewers
Lynda La Plante’s Above Suspicion concluded its fourth season on ITV1 last night with over 5.5 million viewers.
The drama starring Kelly Reilly and Ciaran Hinds returned for a fourth season earlier this month but in a break with previous years Above Suspicion was aired weekly instead of over consecutive nights. In terms of ratings the move has worked out as the drama has rated slightly higher than last year’s instalment. Overnight figures reveal the concluding part of Above Suspicion: Silent Scream was seen by 5.7 million viewers at 9pm. David Jason’s new comedy The Royal Bodyguard continue its poor performance on BBC One with just 2.7 million viewers – the series has lost over 6 million viewers since its premier on Boxing Day. At 9.30 Irish comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys, starring Brendan O’Carroll, continued to perform well with 5.2 million viewers.
Elsewhere the sixth season of E4‘s Skins made a rather lacklustre debut at 10pm. The drama returned with promises of recapturing the spirit of past seasons with its opening episode set in Morocco but it entertained just 460,000 viewers which is half what the fifth season attracted on its premier last year. However, in Skin‘s defence the episode has been available to watch on Channel Four’s on-demand service for a week meaning some viewers will have opted to watch it on there rather than television. Celebrity Big Brother continued to perform for Channel Five with 2.4 million viewers at 9pm.
