STV extends its STV Anywhere

STV – the ITV broadcaster for Scotland – today revealed it’s strategy of providing free content anywhere, anytime to its audiences has taken a significant step forward.

The broadcaster which owns two ITV franchises in Scotland, covering North Scotland and Central and South Scotland, has revealed that with the innovative use of the Facebook platform STV will allow users of their Video on Demand service to share the programmes users are watching or recommending with their friends and family across the social networking website.

STV Player allows people to catch up on hundreds of hours of free national and regional content, from ITV Granada’s Coronation Street and Thames Television’s X-Factor, to the popular STV News at Six, Scotland Tonight and the very latest big title dramas such as ITV Studios’ Downton Abbey.

The latest expansion of the STV Player means that television viewers using Facebook can now share videos via the video service on their Facebook Timeline and discover new content from their friends in their news feed. The function is integrated into stv.tv, meaning that people simply need to click ‘share’ via the STV Player site and the content will automatically be shared via their Facebook page.

An STV spokesperson said, “Making STV content available anytime and anywhere, and free of charge, to our audiences is core to our business philosophy. We are delighted to be making use of the Facebook Platform in this way, allowing people to share, recommend and discover the very best of STV national and regional content – and we will continue to enhance the social aspects of STV Player moving forward.”

Unlike the ITVplc owned regions STV has opened up its archive to host a wide selection of classic Grampian (STV North) and Scottish Television (STV Central and South) programmes from over 50 years of broadcasting. From entire episodes of soap opera Take The High Road to game show Win, Lose or Draw many classic Scottish productions have joined the more recent catch-up programmes on the STV Player and STV’s YouTube page.
