An average of 6.4 million viewers tuned in to see the National Television Awards.

The awards ceremony was screened live on ITV 1 last night from London’s O2 Arena and hosted by Dermot O’Leary. ITV’s Downton Abbey picked up the gong for Best Drama beating BBC’s Dr Who, although there was success for the stars of the science fiction drama, as Matt Smith and Karen Gillan won for best drama performances.

Last night’s viewing figure is similar to that of last year’s who watched. Ant and Dec once again took home the award for Entertainment Presenter, their 11th straight win in the category.
