The BBC are urging Jennifer Saunders to pen another series of Absolutely Fabulous.
The Daily Express report that the BBC want Saunders to pen further episodes of Absolutely Fabulous for 2013. The 1990s comedy penned by and starring Saunders has been revived for three special episodes two of which have already been broadcast to strong ratings. The new episodes have reunited the cast of the outrageous comedy with Joanna Lumley reprising her role of Patsy Stone alongside June Whitfield and Julia Sawalha.
The remaining special, themed around the Olympics, will air on BBC One later this year. Given the strong performance of the revival so far it is unsurprising the BBC is hopeful of further episodes. Saunders previously revived Ab Fab, as its also known, several years ago for two seasons and a number of specials. A source is quoted by the Daily Express saying ‘The viewing figures prove it’s as popular as ever and there’s a real appetite for more episodes. Obviously it’s down to Jennifer to write more and getting all the actors together takes some organising. But the current understanding is there will be another Christmas special for the end of 2012 and then more episodes the following year’
An Absolutely Fabulous movie is also in development with Saunders planning to set and film the film on the French Rivera.
