Channel 4’s video catch up service hits high ratings in 2011

As 2011 drew to a close Channel 4’s ‘4 on Demand’ service saw November prove to be its most successful month to date.

4 on Demand – nicknamed 4oD for ease – saw the catch up and archive content attracting 44million views during November 2011, across all the platforms on which 4oD is available.

Teenager-aimed drama Misfits was the most viewed series of the month – clocking up an impressive 3.5m VoD views.

Channel 4’s long running youth soap opera Hollyoaks proved to be a consistently popular 4oD performer, attracting 3m VoD views, up half a million on October’s total. Made in Chelsea followed a close third, with 2.8m VoD views throughout November.

Drama series Top Boy and Fresh Meat also proved successful with 4oD users, drawing 2.4m and 1.8m VoD views respectively, during November.

Year to date, long form VoD views have now risen to 387million, an increase of 17.3% year on year.

Entertainment was once again the most viewed genre, bringing in nearly 15m views throughout November, an increase of over 4m compared to October, thanks to the success of series such as Derren Brown: The Experiments, Tool Academy, and 8 out of 10 Cats.

The popularity of Misfits, Hollyoaks (pictured right), Top Boy and Fresh Meat delivered a strong monthly total for Drama, with over 11m VoD views throughout the month to the genre.

On the main 4oD platform, 4oD on Channel 4.com, average monthly unique users rose to 5.1m, up from 4.2m in October.
