A Sunday newspaper reports that Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast could be on its way back this year.

The Sunday Mirror is claiming that the alternative breakfast show could be back on either Channel 4 or Channel 5 in time for the London Olympics. A source told the paper: “The aim is to be as good as the original – full of fun and frolics”.

The Big Breakfast first began in 1992 and quickly rose in the ratings as an alternative to the BBC and ITV. However in the late 90’s the show declined and was axed in 2002. The programme was produced by Planet24, which was bought by Carlton Television in 1999. Carlton and Granada Television merged to form ITV Plc and began trading under that name in 2004.

Channel 4 bought in a new breakfast programme in the same year the Big Breakfast was axed. RISE however failed to ignite viewers interested and was axed the following year.
