Former Coronation Street actress Sasha Behar is to join the cast of BBC One’s Holby City.
The actress played ‘Mad’ Maya Sharma in the ITV1 soap between 2003 and 2004; she was the girlfriend of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) but when he dumped her for Sunita (Shobna Gulati) Maya became vengeful. The scorned woman married several illegal immigrants in Sunita’s name but when that failed to work she resorted to more desperate measures; she firebombed Dev’s shop and took him and Sunita hostage above the Corner Shop.
Inside Soap reports that Behar will join Holby City next month as new consultant Alex Broadhurst who will be involved in a storyline with Michael Spence (Hari Dhillon). Producer Justin Young told the magazine ‘She’s smart, dry and professional. Hanssen brings her in to steady the ship and assess whether Michael is capable of taking over his old job after the plastics scandal. Michael has no idea how to handle Alex, and she’s immune to his charms. She’s a rival to Michael, and it’s all about whether he can figure her out.‘
Behar’s other roles include Strike Back, The Shadow Line, Injustice, Rescue Me, North Square, Doctor Who as well as Casualty playing the role of Liz Marcart for several episodes in 2005. Behar has also appeared in Holby City before; in 2002.
