The Mystery of Edwin Drood pulls in 3 million viewers

BBC TwoBBC Two‘s adaptation of the unfinished Charles Dickens novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood got off to a flying start with 3 million viewers.

The two-part adaptation, starring Rory Kinnear and Tamzin Merchant, launched on BBC Two last night at 9pm. The novel has been adapted by Gwyneth Hughes who has also plotted a resolution to the piece as it was never finished by Dickens. Overnight figures reveal an impressive 3 million viewers tuned in for the first instalment.

American drama Body of Proof launched on Channel Five at 9pm; starring former Desperate Housewives actress Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan the opening episode was seen by 1.7 million viewers. The latest instalment of Celebrity Big Brother followed the drama with 2 million viewers.
