Call the Midwife rises to 9 million viewers

Call the MidwifeCall the Midwife continues to attract big ratings for BBC One with the latest episode topping 9 million viewers.

The 1950s based drama stars Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Miranda Hart and Jessica Raine and is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The BBC One drama has attracted strong ratings from its premier with last night’s episode pilling in 9 million viewers – up from the 8.7 million who tuned in last week.

Elsewhere last night Dancing on Ice continued on ITV1 with 7.2 million viewers for the main show and 6.1 million viewers for the results show. Dallas actress Charlene Tilton was voted off – read more here >>. Sandwiched between the two instalments was African based drama Wild at Heart which was seen by 6.3 million viewers.

Supernatural drama Being Human, starring Russell Tovey, returned to BBC Three for its fourth series. The episode had a combined audience of 1.1 million viewers as 890,000 viewers watched on BBC Three while an additional 230,000 watched via the BBC HD Channel. ITV2’s reality soap The Only Way is Essex was seen by just under 900,000 viewers at 10pm.

The fourth series of True Blood got its UK premier last night on FX at 10pm. The supernatural drama starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard kicked off with 220,00 viewers.
