More agreements reached in phone-hacking case

Actor and comedian Steve Coogan is among several well known faces who today received settlements relating to phone-hacking.

At the High Court in London this morning it was announced that News Group Newspapers Ltd (NGN) had settled 15 phone hacking cases with a varying amounts of compensation payments. Coogan received £40,000 and former England footballer Paul Gascoigne was awarded a total of £68,000.

NGN, which published Sunday tabloid News of the World had been accused to hacking into voicemail messages of many people over the years. This latest settlement came as 9 out of 10 of those settled today were due to go to a civil trial on Monday. One is expected to still go ahead next week.

Alistair Campbell, the former  communications director for Tony Blair while he was Prime Minister, was awarded substantial amounts. Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Simon Hughes received £45,000.
