Saul Metzstein to direct Doctor Who episode

Doctor WhoThe first director for the seventh series of Doctor Who has been announced and its newcomer, to the BBC sci-fi series, Saul Metzstein.

The official Doctor Who website revealed Metzstein as the first confirmed director for the new series which is expected to air on BBC One in the Autumn. Metzstein is a newcomer to the sci-fi series having not previously worked on the series but has built up a worthy CV of directing credits in recent years.

He directed one episode of Upstairs Downstairs in 2010, when the BBC revived the period drama for a three-part special. The second series starts later this month and stars actress Alex Kingston and is filmed in BBC’s new Cardiff studios, Roath Lock, where Doctor Who’s seventh series will be filmed. Metzstein other acting credits include BBC Four drama Micro Men and Late Night Shopping.

Earlier this week SFX confirmed two of the writers for the new series; Being Human creator Toby Whithouse and Torchwood/Camelot writer Chris Chibnall. There are also rumours that Mark Gatiss and John Fay will also pen episodes for the new series.
