The Voice and Smash see drop in ratings

The Voice and Smash both saw drops in their ratings on Monday evening but still won the evening for NBC.  Meanwhile Fox’s new J.J Abrams series Alcatraz continued to lose viewers.

The Voice lost some of its ratings last night for NBC with the two hour instalment pulling in 16.1 million viewers in terms of total viewers and a 5.9 18-49 rating. It might have been a weaker performance than last week but it was still enough to win the evening overall for NBC. Elsewhere at 8pm CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother pulled in 9.1 million viewers with a 3.4 18-49 rating followed by 2 Broke Girls with 10.4 million viewers and a 3.7 18-49 rating. The Bachelor on ABC had 7.9 million viewers for a two hour instalment with a 2.5 rating while House on Fox was seen by 7.1 million viewers and a 2.4 rating. Gossip Girl on The CW dropped to a new low of 1.1 million viewers and a 0.5 18-49 rating.

At 9pm J.J Abrams new Fox series Alcatraz continued to lose ground with 6.1 million viewers and a 1.9 18-49 rating; last week it had 6.7 million viewers and a 2.2 rating. Alcatraz continued ratings decline could spell hope for Terra Nova’s renewal prospects; if ratings continue to fall Fox may indeed hand the dino-drama another season. Also at 9pm CBS’s comedy block continued with Two and a Half Men which had 12.3 million viewers and a 3.8 18-49 rating followed by Mike and Molly at 9.30 with 10.9 million viewers and a 3.3 rating and the hour was rounded off by CW drama Hart of Dixie with 1.6 million viewers and a 0.6 18-49 rating.

At 10pm new musical drama Smash lost a hefty 3 million viewers for last week’s premier; the second episode of the drama starring Debra Messing, Jack Davenport and Anjelica Hudson had 8 million viewers and a 2.8 rating. In terms of the all important 18-49 audience demo Smash won the hour by both Hawaii Five-0 and Castle had more viewers overall. Hawaii Five-0 had 9.5 million viewers and a 2.6 rating for CBS while Castle had 8.8 million viewers and a 2.0 rating for ABC.
