Return of Gypsy Weddings dents Prisoners’ Wives ratings

Channel 4 blocks logoThe return of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding to Channel Four last night proved to be a big hit for the broadcaster denting ratings for new BBC One drama Prisoners’ Wives.
The series returned at 9pm last night with 4.8 million viewers easily winning the time-slot. Big Fat Gypsy Weddings was seen by a further 860,000 viewers an hour later on Channel Four’s time-shift channel giving the opening episode a combined audience of nearly 5.7 million viewers. The return of the series caused ratings for new BBC One drama Prisoners’ Wives to fall back after last week’s wise. The drama, starring Polly Walker and Emma Rigby, fell to 4.2 million viewers after rising to 5 million viewers for last week’s episode.
Elsewhere last night Shameless at 10pm on Channel Four had 1.8 million viewers while Body of Proof continued on Channel Five at 9pm with 1.3 million viewers.
