Sherlock producer reacts to Elementary casting
Sherlock producer Sue Virtue has given her reaction to the casting of Johnny Lee Miller in CBS pilot Elementary.
The pilot is for a modern-day adaptation of Sherlock Holmes with the stories relocated to New York with Johnny Lee Miller playing the title role. CBS announced they were developing Elementary last year which raised some eye brows because of its similarity to BBC One‘s Sherlock which Sue Virtue is a producer off.
Speaking to the Independent the producer gave her reaction to the casting of Johnny Lee Miller in CBS’s Elementary. ‘Johnny is a very fine actor, who I saw recently in the theatre when he and Benedict played alternating roles in Frankenstein. Let’s hope their pilot script has stayed further away from our Sherlock than their casting choice. We have been in touch with CBS and informed them that we will be looking at their finished pilot very closely for any infringement of our rights’
When Elementary was announced by CBS last year Virtue described the news as ‘extremely worrying’ and revealed CBS had been interested in developing a remake of Sherlock for America. At the moment Elementary has not been picked up by CBS for a full series but should the pilot prove successful it is likely to be.
