Darius Campbell joins ABC’s Beauty and the Beast
Former Pop Idol hopeful Darius Campbell has been cast in the pilot for ABC’s Beauty and the Beast.
There are currently two different Beauty and the Beast projects in development; ABC and The CW are both developing a television series. The ABC series is steaming ahead with its casting though as Scottish singer and actor Darius Campbell has been cast, reports TV Line, as Shiro; a beastly bodyguard who ‘forms and unlikely bond’ with a princess called Grace – the role which has not yet been cast. Earlier this week it was revealed that former Home and Away actor Christopher Egan had been cast as Grace’s finance Gorrick.
Darius Campbell is a relative newcomer to American audiences but he is familiar to British ones for his participation in several talent contents. Campbell was one of the more entertaining contestants of ITV’s Pop Stars in 2001 but didn’t make it into the final line-up of the band which became known as Hear Say.
Later that year Campbell was drafted in for the first series of Pop Idol when contestant Rik Waller pulled out. Following his appearances in the two ITV talent contestants Campbell appeared in several West End productions before returning to television in 2010 for Popstar to Operastar which he won.
