Officers from Operation Elveden make more arrests

Met Police arrested 8 people this morning as part of Operation Elveden which is investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.


Met Police arrested 8 people this morning as part of Operation Elveden which is investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.

The arrests took place between 6.00am and 8.00am this morning (Saturday) with arrests taking place at private addresses in London, Kent, Essex, Wiltshire and Surrey. Those arrested include a 39 year old serving Surrey police officer and a 39 year old Ministry of Defence employee. A member of the Armed Forces was also taken in for questioning.

Police also confirmed that today’s operation was in result of information given to them by News Corporation’s Management Standards Committee. News International offices in Wapping, East London are also being searched. It has now been confirmed that 5 of those arrested are current Sun newspaper employees.

Operation Elveden is running in conjunction with Operation Weeting which is looking into phone-hacking of voicemails.

The total number of those arrested by officers from Elveden stands at 21.
