Sun on Sunday loses half a million readers

The SunEstimates for the second edition of the Sun on Sunday claim that over half a million readers didn’t return.

Media Guardian reports that early estimates for the second edition of the Sun on Sunday reveal that a drop of over half a million readers. The Sun on Sunday launched on the 26th February with 3.2 million copies sold but with a mixed reaction from critics some of whom labelled the new Sunday tabloid as “boring”.

It was widely expected the second edition would see a drop in the amount of copies sold with Rupert Murdoch tweeting over the weekend that a 15% drop would be a “great result”. According to early data the drop was slightly higher at 17% as the paper reportedly sold 2.6 million copies. However, that figure is not confirmed yet – it is only an early estimate – and could rise or fall when more accurate figures are released in several days time.
