Upstairs Downstairs ratings drops to 5 million viewers

Keeley HawesBBC One‘s period drama Upstairs Downstairs dropped to 5 million viewers last night at 9pm.

The drama, starring Keeley Hawes and Ed Stoppard, has lost over 1.5 million viewers since it returned for a second series in February. However, it is likely to pick up additional viewers when consolidated ratings are released – they take into account viewers who recorded the programme and watched later. The series is also likely to pick up viewers via the BBC iPlayer service as well. Last night’s episode of Upstairs Downstairs, which featured a lesbian plot involving guest star Emilia Fox, had 5 million viewers.

ITV‘s Dancing on Ice pulled in 7 million viewers for its main show as its ratings continued to recover. The skate-off later in the evening had 5.7 million viewers – beating Upstairs Downstairs on BBC One. Sandwiched between the two editions was drama Wild at Heart which had 6 million viewers. Elsewhere last night Homeland on Channel Four held steady with 2 million viewers.
