Skins to end next year
E4‘s teen drama series Skins will come to a conclusion next year with its seventh season.
The sixth season of the teen drama is currently airing on Monday nights on E4 though to lower overnight figures than previous years. Channel Four has now announced that a seventh and final season will follow next year.
Skins portrayal of teenage life wasn’t always popular with critics or parents but it made the drama a hit with its target audience. It’s use of sex, drugs, alcohol against the back drop of storylines including murder, homosexuality, depression and suicide made the show a success. It was a bold move, after the second season, to dump the cast and introduce a new generation but it paid off with the series remaining popular.
Such was the success of Skins that an American remake was developed last year but it failed to take off in the same way as its British counter-part.
