Sara Canning to star in Primeval: New World

Former Vampire Diaries actress Sara Canning and Eureka actor Niall Matter are amongst the cast of the forthcoming Primeval spin-off New World.


The Hollywood Reporter has revealed some of the cast for the Canadian based Primeval spin-off New World. The spin-off was announced last year after rumours of an American remake being in development. Amongst the cast of Primeval: New World will be former Vampire Diaries actress Sara Canning who will play a ‘predator attack expert. The actress is best known for playing Jenna Sommers in the CW supernatural series who was killed off in the penultimate episode of season two. Canning’s other roles include appearances in Smallville, Kyle XY and more recently Supernatural.

Meanwhile also part of the spin-off will be actor Niall Matter whose previous roles include Zane Donovan in Eureka (also known as A Town Called Eureka), 90210, Melrose Place, Warehouse 13 and Stargate Atlantis. Matter will play an ‘inventor and visionary hero’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. The entertainment news site also reports that Sanctuary and Stargate actress Amanda Tapping will direct episodes of the New World.

The spin-off will air on SPACE in Canada and Watch in the UK. The latest news about the spin-off comes in the same week as it emerged the ITV version, aka the original series, looks likely to be axed once again.
