Homeland ratings rise

Channel Four’s new American import Homeland starring Damien Lewis and Claire Danes saw its ratings climb on Sunday evening.

The drama has performed solidly for Channel Four since its premier in February pulling in more than 2 million viewers for each episode so far. On Sunday evening Homeland had a combined audience of 2.5 million viewers; 2.1 million for the 9pm Channel Four broadcast and a further 350,000 an hour later on the time-shift channel.

Upstairs Downstairs on BBC One at 9pm held onto its audience from last week – the first time this series that its audience hasn’t fallen. The period drama has lost several million viewers since its season two premier in February though it does pick up additional viewers via consolidated ratings – meaning its actual audience is higher than overnight figures suggest. Sunday night’s episode, The Last Waltz, had 4.8 million viewers and it was the penultimate episode of the second series. You can read a review of The Last Waltz here >>

The semi-finals of Dancing on Ice pulled in 6.9 million viewers for the main-show with the results show seen by 5.7 million viewers; Jennifer Ellison was voted off despite being the tabloid favourite to win. Sandwiched in-between the two editions was Who Wants to be a Millionaire with 5.4 million viewers.
