Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill to exit Doctor Who in fifth episode

Karen GillanIt has been revealed that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will leave Doctor Who in the fifth episode of the seventh season.

Warning: Contains Spoilers

It had previously been reported that their characters of Amy Pond and Rory Williams would be written out during the course of the seventh season – however, it had not been stated which episode they would depart. When it was announced last year that both Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill would be returning for the seventh season there was, almost immediately, speculation as to how many episodes the characters would appear.

Steven Moffat has confirmed that Amy and Rory will be written out of Doctor Who in the fifth episode and has also revealed just who they’ll do battle with one last time. ‘Amy and Rory will leave in a final encounter with the Weeping Angels. Not everyone gets out alive and I mean it this time’. Amy and the Doctor (Matt Smith) previously met the Weeping Angels in the season five two-part story The Time of Angels and Flesh & Stone.

It has also been revealed that the Daleks will return during the first part of the seventh season – meaning Amy and Rory will encounter them once more. Season seven will be spilt into half with six episodes airing this year and eight airing next year, the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.
