Richard Desmond to cut newspaper jobs
Richard Desmond is to axe up to 70 jobs across his four national newspapers.
The Channel 5 boss is looking to make savings across his Northern & Shell company by cutting up 70 jobs. The editorial jobs are expected to be lost across Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday.
The Media Guardian reports that the savings could total £5 million and say that 41 of the posts being cut are currently occupied by full time staff. The article went on to say that it will be ‘voluntary job cuts’.
There had been rumours that N&S were going to close Daily Star Sunday due to the launch of Sun on Sunday but bosses have reassured staff and the National Union of Journalists that all four newspapers they print will continue to do so.
