BBC announce Breakfast move date to Salford

BBC BreakfastThe BBC has now announced the date for the first edition of Breakfast that will come from Salford.

The first edition from Salford will be broadcast on Tuesday 10th April – less than a month away.

The BBC announced last year that Breakfast would be moving from its current home in London to Salford sometime this year. The move is part of the corporation’s much criticised plans to relocate services and departments from London to Salford – other programmes to move north include Blue Peter.

The move north prompted Sian Williams and Chris Hollins, both popular fixtures of Breakfast, to decline to move with the series. Williams and Hollins made their last appearances ‘on the sofa’ earlier this month. The BBC has confirmed that Bill Turnbull, Susanna Reid, Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt will stay with Breakfast as it moves to Salford.

“I’m excited to be moving to a new studio, with the very best in technology in an innovative, light-filled new building. I’ve visited MediaCity several times already and its open-plan design and space make it much easier for people to mingle and exchange ideas. I’m looking forward to being a part of that.” – Bill Turnbull

“This is a very exciting time and I’m thrilled to be involved in this next stage of the programme’s development. I love working on the programme and I love the team I’m working with – it’s what gets me up in the morning.” –
Susanna Reid

ITV are hoping that Breakfast‘s move to Salford will impact on the programme – i.e difficulty getting guests on the show – and that ratings will then fall. It hopes that the Salford move will become a much needed boost to struggling Daybreak which continues to life in the shadow of the highly rated Breakfast.
