Channel Five to air extra Celebrity Big Brother series
Channel Five will air another series of Celebrity Big Brother in the Summer.
Channel Five acquired the rights to air Big Brother, and the celebrity version, in a deal struck with Endemol in 2011. After Big Brother ended its run on Channel Four it was widely reported that Channel Five was in talks to pick up the series but it took several months for a deal to be struck.
Under the deal a series of the normal Big Brother and the Celebrity version would be aired each year. Media Guardian reports that Channel Five and Endemol have struck a deal to air an extra series of Celebrity Big Brother this year. Denise Welch won the last series of Celebrity Big Brother which aired earlier this year and under a new deal another series will air in the Summer.
The extra Celebrity series means the “normal” version, due to air in the Summer, will be cut in length to accommodate the extra series. The extra series is likely because of its strong ratings performance for Channel Five compared to the normal edition. Expect plenty of press speculation over which “celebrities” will enter the house in the Summer for the extra series.
