Joe McElderry lands Corrie musical spot

Joe McElderryJoe McElderry has signed up to appear in the Coronation Street musical Street of Dreams.

The singer will make a guest appearance in the musical based on the ITV soap when it arrives at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle in May. The musical will tour the country appearing in locations such as Belfast and Manchester.

The musical stars Julie Goodyear, Paul O’Grady and Brian Capron amongst others. Joe McElderry will sing the show’s finale number Ghost – Take My Hand according to reports when it arrives at Newcastle.

“I’m such a huge fan of Coronation Street – it’s been a huge part of my life since I was a child, so to be a part of this amazing musical homage is really exciting.  I can’t wait to be stood on stage in my home town alongside the cast of Corrie singing this beautiful finale number. Joe McElderry is best known for winning the 2009 series of the X Factor beating Olly Murs and Stacey Solomon. Following his X Factor win 2009 he came out as gay following the hacking of his Twitter account. In 2011 he won the second series of ITV’s Popstar to Operastar.
