The Fades axed by BBC Three

Iain deCaesteckerBBC Three has axed its supernatural drama The Fades starring Iain deCaestecker and written by Jack Thorne.

The six-part drama aired on BBC Three last Autumn and revolved around a teenage boy named Paul (Iain deCaestecker) who has dreams about the end of the world and discovers he is an “angelic”. The drama also starred Natalie Dormer, Tom Ellis, Joe Dempsie, Claire Rusbrook, Lily Loveless, Daniel Kaluuya and Johnny Harris.

Cast member Johnny Harris confirmed, in an interview with SFX, that The Fades had not been renewed for a second series. The BBC Three drama performed well for the broadcaster and was also a hit in the BBC iPlayer as well as winning favourable reviews – especially from ATV Today‘s own critic Queenie Le Trout. However, its fate was sealed not by its performance but because of cut backs at BBC Three which has resulted in the stations’ drama output being scaled back.

It was previously reported that BBC Three would axe Being Human, Lip Service or The Fades as part of the cut back. Being Human was recently renewed for a fifth season while Lip Service returns for a second series shortly.
