Fox orders new seasons for Glee, Raising Hope and New Girl
Fox has ordered a second season of Zooey Deschanel comedy New Girl as well as new seasons of Glee and Raising Hope.
The three renewals are hardly surprising especially given the strong performance of New Girl which has also been warmly received by critics. While Glee has not rated as highly as in previous seasons the third series never-the-less has performed well. A question mark hangs over the participation of key cast members in the fourth series as it was previously indicated some would be written out – a statement later contradicted so just whom will actually be back next year for Glee and who won’t be is still up in the air really.
The renewal of Glee isn’t that much of a surprise either given The Glee Project, on Oxygen, had previously been given a second series. If there was to be no fourth series of Glee a second series of The Glee Project would hardly likely to have been ordered.
“Over the past season, New Girl has become the hottest new appointment series for young adults; Raising Hope has established itself as one of the smartest and most unique offbeat comedies on television; and Glee has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon,” – Kevin Reilly, entertainment president
While Raising Hope, Glee and New Girl have been rewarded with new seasons the fates of Fringe, Alcatraz and The Finder, the spin-off from Bones, remain undecided. While it seems Fringe will likely return for a final outing Alcatraz and The Finder have widely been tipped for the axe but as no official decision has been taken about either show yet it would perhaps be unwise to write them off completely.
