BBC Breakfast makes first broadcast from Salford
Breakfast has made its debut from the MediaCityUK complex in Salford.
Breakfast, which airs on BBC One and BBC News Channel, becomes the latest programme to broadcast from the new media complex. The decision two years ago to move north prompted some concerns from staff, with some deciding not to move with the programme.
The show opened this morning with Bill Turnbull and Susanna Reid, who welcomed viewers to their new home. Susanna became Bill’s co-host after Sian Williams left after 11 years last month. The studio is shared with BBC regional programme North West Today / Tonight.
“We’re not making a northern Breakfast, we’re just making Breakfast. The BBC has a job to report UK-wide and there’s a commitment to bringing programmes and news from all parts of the UK, and Breakfast is part of that plan” – Deputy editor Adam Bullimore speaking to the BBC.
