Eve Myles eyes Sherlock role

Eve MylesTorchwood actress Eve Myles has said she would love a role on Steven Moffat series Sherlock which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

In a new interview with the Radio Times the Welsh actress revealed her desire to bag a role on BBC One’s critically acclaimed Sherlock. The second season of the series – a modern day adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle;s classic sleuth – aired on BBC One earlier this year and a third series has already been ordered. In the interview with the Radio Times Myles was asked which television series she would most like a role in to which she replied ‘Sherlock – it is really hot. I also love Upstairs Downstairs. I am proud it gets made in Cardiff’

Sherlock was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss who wrote the Doctor Who story The Unquiet Dead in 2005 which starred Eve Myles as maid Gwyneth. The role in the story eventually led the actress to be cast in Torchwood as cop turned alien fighter Gwen Cooper. The most recent series of Upstairs Downstairs concluded last month on BBC One and starred Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston and Anne Reid who has guest starred twice (in different roles) in the science fiction series. It was recently announced that Adrian Scarborough, who plays head butler Mr. Pritchard in Upstairs Downstairs, will guest star in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who.

In the interview the actress also discussed playing Gwen Cooper in Torchwood and how it was her favourite role. Myles told the Radio Times ‘she is a full-on action hero and I get to do all that fun stuff because I do all my own stunts. I also get to do great domestic scenes because I am a married woman with a baby. So I get to save the world and be the girl next door. The mix is wonderful.’

The future of Torchwood is currently unclear as while a fourth series, titled Miracle Day, aired on BBC One (in the UK) and Starz (in America) last year another series has yet to be ordered. However, American broadcaster Starz recently stated it would be open to another series but only if creator Russell T. Davies was onboard.
