The Vampire Diaries ratings rise for ITV2

Paul WesleySupernatural drama The Vampire Diaries beat new drama Alcatraz from J.J Abrams on Watch.

The latest episode of The Vampire Diaries, titled 1912, drew 460,000 viewers to ITV2 last night at 9pm as Damon (Ian Somerhalder) remembered the previous serial killer to stalk Mystic Falls a century ago. A further 160,000 viewers watched the episode an hour later on the time-shift channel giving a combined audience of 620,000 viewers. J.J Abrams new drama Alcatraz continued on Watch at 9pm with 400,000 viewers while critically acclaimed Mad Men continued to pull in low ratings for Sky Atlantic with just 65,000 viewers. Sky One’s new supernatural drama  Touch, starring 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, which had 523,000 viewers at 8pm.

On terrestrial television last night new BBC One drama The Syndicate continued with 5.4 million viewers easily beating The Mighty Mississippi, fronted by Sir Trevor McDonald, on ITV1 which had 2.9 million viewers. BBC Two’s science series Horizon pulled in 1.3 million viewers at 9pm.

Soapwise last night EastEnders pulled in 7.6 million viewers for BBC One at 7.30pm with a further 900,000 viewers watching the BBC Three repeat at 10pm giving the episode a combined audience of 8.5 million viewers. Today it was reported that actors Patsy Palmer and Lindsey Coulson will be taking a six month break from the BBC soap. Medical drama Holby City at 8pm pulled in 5.2 million viewers.
