Downton Abbey producers deny Maggie Smith exit
Downton Abbey producers have denied reports that Dame Maggie Smith has asked to be written out of the series.
It was reported that the actress had asked creator Julian Fellowes to writer her character of Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess out of Downton Abbey so she could pursue other roles. However, producers have denied that is the case with a spokesperson from Carnival Films telling the LA Times ‘Series three is currently filming with Maggie along with the other cast. We do not comment on future storylines. However, there is no truth in the story that Maggie is leaving the show.’
The news will come as a relief to fans of Downton Abbey many of whom see Maggie Smith’s portrayal of the Countess as a highlight.
