Dick Clark dies aged 82

American television presenter Dick Clark has died aged 82.

Clark is best known in America for presenting American Bandstand and  Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve which he had hosted since 1972. In later years American Idol host Ryan Seacrest became co-host of the ABC show after Clark suffered a stroke in 2004.

American Bandstand was a music show in which acts would perform and a rundown of the Top 40 music chart would also feature. The show was hosted by Clark from 1956 – 1989 making him a household name. The show is credited with bringing up and coming new music acts to the screen.

A statement released by his agent Paul Shefrin said Clark died from a heart attack early this morning in Los Angeles.
