Virgin Media pulls David Tennant advert

A Virgin Media TiVo advert has been pulled following a complaint from the BBC.

The BBC made a complaint to Virgin Media following the TV advert which featured former Dr Who actor David Tennant. They were unhappy that it seemed Virgin Media were using the Dr Who brand to promote their own services.

In the advert David Tennant is seen using the TiVo service and searching through what to watch. The Dr Who logo and description guide, including an image of himself, is seen on-screen. The BBC said this could be perceived as commercial endorsement, which is against BBC guidelines.

As a ‘gesture of goodwill’, Virgin Media agreed to pull the advert. A joint statement they said that both parties are now satisfied that the issues have now been addressed.
