ITV to axe Daybreak?

ITV are to axe Daybreak after just two years according to a report.

Saturday’s edition of  The Mirror is reporting that the ITV breakfast show is to be ‘axed’ after a £10 million relaunch flop. It had been reported this week that the programme was to move into Lorraine’s studio later this year.

Daybreak has struggled in the ratings battle with BBC’s Breakfast after replacing GMTV in 2010. The channel faced a huge backlash at the time and criticism of new hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley who were poached from BBC’s The One Show. They were axed from the show at the end of last year.

“There are plenty of other possibilities. It wasn’t the name that didn’t work out, but the programme itself. All the focus is on getting the show right this time.” – Source taking to Mirror newspaper

Lorraine Kelly is favourite to be the new face of  an ITV breakfast programme with several newspaper reports over the past few months speculating that bosses are looking for a male co-host for her. Lorraine returned to present her self-titled show, which follows Daybreak, last week after a horse-riding accident in February.
