Fox orders fifth and final season of Fringe

Fringe, the quirky cult series, will return to Fox for a fifth and final season.

After months of waiting Fringe fans can breath easy because their beloved series will return for a fifth season. The snag is though the fifth season will also be Fringe‘s last ala Chuck but it will give producers a chance to wrap up the storylines and craft a decent finale for the series.

“Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve. The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.” – Kevin Reilly, Fox entertainment chief

Despite its constant low ratings, no doubt related to its Friday evening grave-yard slot rather than the quality of the programme itself, Fringe has managed to survive cancellation once more. That’s an impressive feat given Fox’s admission it makes no money from Fringe and shows have been axed in the past with higher ratings. In recent weeks though the growing consensus was Fringe would survive cancellation to receive a final season order and that’s exactly what happened.
