BBC Three sitcom White Van Man axed
The comedy, produced for the digital channel by ITV Studios, has been cancelled following disappointing ratings for its second season which aired earlier this year. Ratings for the second series were around half of what the first series pulled in 2011.
White Van Man starred Will Mellor, Georgia Moffett and Naomi Bentley. Writer and creator Adrian Poynton confirmed the series demise at the weekend telling the British Comedy Guide ‘We honestly believe we made the second series bigger, bolder and stronger than series one, and audience reaction seemed to back that up. Sadly it seems BBC3 wants to take its comedy output in another direction’
White Van Man was originally commissioned by Danny Cohen before he became controller of BBC One. When Zai Bennett took over as BBC Three controller he axed a string of comedy programmes such as Ideal, Lunch Monkeys and Two Pints of Lager and A Packet of Crisps. However, White Man Van survived his original cull to be given a second series. An American remake of the comedy is currently in development.
