Coronation Street actors win pay battle

Coronation Street actors have won their long-running battle with ITV to stop their pay being cut.The dispute between the cast and the broadcaster started earlier this year when ITV announced it was moving the Coronation Street omnibus from ITV1 to digital channel ITV2. With the move to the digital channel ITV wanted to reduce the repeat fee’s the cast receive for the omnibus edition arguing fewer viewers would watch on ITV2.

However, the cast objected to the reduction in repeat fees –  as for some cast members it would mean a huge drop in their salary. There dispute between the cast and ITV was said to have come close to key cast members striking. However, The Mirror reports that a deal has been reached between the cast and the broadcaster. The new deal is said to last only a year though meaning the dispute may start up again in the near future.
