The feature of Katie Couric and Sarah Palin on rival morning news programmes has sparked much debate as ABC looks to take on NBC.
ABC’s Good Morning America has hired former NBC Today show anchor Katie Couric as a ‘guest anchor’ for this week. It has prompted much online speculation that ABC announced the signing last week to trump NBC’s announcement that former Alaska governor Sarah Palin would be co-hosting Today Show.
In recent months Good Morning America has been closing in on the dominant Today Show. It was reported last night that NBC have asked ratings data agency Nielsen to speed-up results so they can see them earlier than usually posted.
Katie Couric was main anchor for Today Show from 1991 – 2006 and was seen as a main reason to the success of the show. She left in 2006 to present the CBS Evening News but failed to change the low ratings of CBS, which finishes third in the evening news battle.
Couric now serves as a special correspondent at ABC News and is expected to launch her own daytime talk show in the summer.
