Miliband – ‘Ofcom must come to its own conclusions’

Labour leader Ed Miliband has said Ofcom must come to their own conclusions following today’s report findings.

The culture, media and sport select committee report into phone-hacking was published today and concluded that Rupert Murdoch is ‘not a fit person’ to run a media company.
Speaking after the publication of the report Miliband said the following:

“I think now what needs to happen is the regulator, Ofcom, and it is a matter for them, needs to come to its own conclusions.”

Ofcom are looking into whether executives of BSkyB are ‘fit and proper’ to hold a broadcast licence following the phone-hacking scandal which engulfed News International, subsidiary of News Corporation. News Corp have a 39.1% stake in BSkyB.

“We have a duty under the Broadcasting Acts 1990 and 1996 to be satisfied that any person holding a broadcasting licence is, and remains, fit and proper to hold those licences.” – Ofcom
