Newt Gingrich ends presidential campaign

Newt Gingrich has ended his campaign to be nominated the Republican candidate in the forthcoming presidential elections in America.

Another Republican hopeful bites the dust; Newt Gingrich has become the latest presidential candidate to end his campaign and endorse front-runner Mitt Romney. The campaign to be nominated the Republican candidate, for the presidential elections, has been bitter and hard fought despite the common ground many of the candidates share. In many areas the various candidates are not that far apart ideologically but that hasn’t stopped the mud-slinging.

The race for the Republican candidacy took another step closer to the finishing line today though with Newt Gingrich deciding to throw in the towel and endorse rival Mitt Romney. The former House Speaker told his supporters ‘today I am suspending the campaign, suspending the campaign does not mean suspending citizenship‘. He added ‘I am asked sometimes, is Mitt Romney conservative enough? My answer is simple: compared to Barack Obama? This is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history.’

Mitt Romney has been the favourite to win the Republican candidacy race for some time though Rick Santorum posed a serious threat to the Mormon at one stage. However, the ultra-conservative Santorum stepped down himself a number of weeks ago following in the foot-steps of Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann both of whom ended their campaigns when it became clear their support base was not large enough.

Perhaps one of Gingrich’s more famous promises was his pledge to establish an American base on the Moon by the ‘end of my second term‘.

  • Once again Ron Paul is blacked out of the qutoeisns for most of the so-called debate. One question he was asked, what would you do to save the Everglades? Good God-Almighty, our country is going down the tubes and the moderator asks such a stupid question!!?? These debates are a farce ..they only want to focus on Romney and Gingrich, period .even Santorum got a bit more to say than Ron Paul. For God’s sake Americans, can’t you see what the media is doing to you??
