Daybreak fans unhappy over Aled Jones announcement
Fans of ITV breakfast programme Daybreak have taken to the official Facebook page to air their views on Aled Jones.
ITV announced today that Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly are the new presenters of Daybreak. They officially replace Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley who were axed last year. Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb are currently presenting on an interim basis.
Viewers have posted on the official Facebook page for Daybreak expressing their opinions on the announcement.

There was a similar backlash at the time Daybreak replaced GMTV. Aled and Lorraine will take up their new roles later this year.
Unbelivable! ITV have made a huge mistake, i dont mind Lorraine so much but Aled Jones??? This is a joke. Kate and Dan were fine, why have they gone and messed it up??? When they arrive on screen im turning over to BBC Breakfast or Sky News. ITV’s reputation for Breakfast tv has gone downhill and this has made it worse. Well done itv for making a dogs dinner of a tv show. Enjoy your extremley low ratings, then you will see how right we, the viewers are!!!
The appointment of Aled Jones is a very interesting and bizzard choice of anchor. It will either be a success or absolute failure.
However, I disagree with you Ray I don’t think Kate and Dan were fine together. In fact, I actually found them quite nauseating to watch on Daybreak. Kate would alway’s dominate interviews speaking over her guests, laughing very loudly and not letting Dan have a word in edgeways. She made Dan look like a very inexperienced and incompetent presenter despite his popularity amongst Housewives. It was a very unequal partnership.
It got so bad that I stopped watching the programme and I switched to the BBC. I think Dan and Kate are good presenters just not together. When former GMTV presenter Helen Fospero presented Daybreak with Dan it was a much better partnership. Likewise Kate presented so much better with the legend that is John Stapleton.
Let’s face it Daybreak has been a disaster from the beginning because it tried to replicate the worst aspects of GMTV being too lightweight. Even Adrian and Christine attracted more viewers than Dan and Kate. This time last year the show averaged around 750,000 viewers with Adrian and Christine. However, this had declined to only 650,000 for last week. Therefore, Kate and Dan have led to a decline of 100,000 viewers. ITV simply had to act and axe them.
However, I would love to see Penny and John return. They were the best breakfast presenters. They were fantastic together very warm, funny and professional.
You mean people actually stayed to try Daybreak? I left ITV as soon as GMTV said “goodbye”. I always said it was a mistake. My household have been very happy with BBC Breakfast on a mornings for the past 2 years and we would recommend it to anyone. Bill & Sian, Charlie & Susannah, Bill & Susannah or Charlie & Louise – they’re like part of the furniture now.
Childs and Bleakley were bad enough but Jones….no way. Whoever thought of him as presenter needs to take a long hard look.Kelly is ok in very small doses but Jones is just nauseating and slimy.I will stick with the BBC
They should never have gotten rid of GMTV, it had a far better layout with different presenters every day of the week and you could always guarantee a laugh from the lovely Penny Smith. I stopped watching Daybreak about 2 weeks after it first started airing, although it got slightly bettert when Adrian and Christine left Kate and Dan were hopeless, but I would still much rather see Ben Shephard back on the sofa and for them to revert back to GMTV, because I find BBC Breakfast too dull to watch in the morning, but then Daybreak are not much better with the annoying as hell Doctor Hillary.
