Showtime orders third season of The Borgias

Showtime has ordered a third season of historical romp The Borgias.

Jeremy Irons will be back next year as Pope Alexander VI as Showtime has ordered a ten-part third season to air on the broadcaster in 2013. The historical drama revolves around the notorious Italian renaissance crime family as is Showtime’s successor to The Tudors.

The Borgias has seen its ratings drop for the second season but despite that Showtime is obviously happy enough to renew the series for another year. While the ratings may have dropped reviews have mostly been good.

In the UK the historical drama airs on Sky Atlantic.
