Soap Classics to release Farewell to Oakdale DVD
Soap Classics is to release the last ten episodes of CBS soap opera As The World Turns on DVD.
In September 2010 soap opera As The World Turns came to an end after a staggering 54 years on air and 13,858 episodes! The Oakdale based soap was killed off because of low ratings following the demise of Guiding Light shortly before.
However, fans of As The World Turns have been able to relive some of the golden moments from the soap’s long history thanks to DVD releases by Soap Classics. A number of themed box-sets have been released and the latest is titled Farewell to Oakdale and features the last ten episodes of the soap.
Concluding a soap after such a long time is a tricky affair and sadly in the last few years something four soaps have had to do (Guiding Light, ATWT, All My Children and One Life to Live). The new box-set of the final episodes costs $19.95 but there’s also a special edition, for £24.95, which features a replica shooting script for the final week of episodes! A real bonus for any ATWT fans.
Soap Classics have also released episodes of Guiding Light on DVD and reportedly plan to release other soaps on DVD such as Another World. Visit their website here >>

The release of the dvd’s of ATWT is a real treat to me. It was my guilty pleasure. Shows with characters that go back 50 years is very uncommon in the day of ratings, hot bods and a youth market. I just wish they would go back to the oldest shows they can find and release it . I already have the last 10 shows on a dvd that I made myself. What would really make me happy is to see the shows come back to life with new episodes- 1 day a week- a half hour- a web series- or a tv movie. Anything. Just would love to see my friends again.
I agree with Tim. Let’s bring back the Steve and Betsy storyline with a special DVD of their love story. And Tom and Margo in the early years. I’d also love to see the very beginning of the show – a compilation of the early life Lisa and Bob. The Ellen and David storyline was fun too, where he left her when he had amnesia, and she changed her hairstyle and won him back. At least that’s how I remember it. Don’t you wish we could open the vault and rummage through the old shows!
